A Birthday Road Trip

Krisanne Turns Sixty!

Northern New Mexico is one of Krisanne's favorite places, in particular the Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort.  Road Trip!  ðŸ˜Ž

Otto's more than willing.

So's Krisanne

Annnnnd, we're off!  Kinda...

Relive 'Krisanne’s Birthday Eve Road Trip!'

Forgot Krisanne's jacket, so we had to quickly double back...Relive shows all.  ðŸ˜‚

Snow capped mountains near Bonita...much more to come.

Coffee stop in Safford at the very cute Main Street Bean.

More snow as we climb.

We have cow...

And over Emory Pass at 8228 feet.

Truth of Consequences is a town literally named after a game show.  The town was incorporated in 1916 as Hot Springs and renamed in 1950 after the radio show.  It is also home to a Spaceport...but we're headed there for...wait for it...wait for it...Bowling.

Staying at the Rocket Inn, of course.

Sustenance before the big game...

Happy Birthday Girl.

To the Lanes!

It was a lot of fun!

To Ojo Caliente

The next day we're off to Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort, a beautiful place and a beautiful drive through Jemez Springs.

Relive 'To Ojo Caliente!'

The Valles Caldera, the remains of a volcano formed about 70,000 years ago.  Now a national preserve, and home to over 8000 elk.

C'mon in!

Fireplace and outdoor private hot springs fed tub.

Pretty high...6230.

Our friends Bill and Pam flew in from NJ and met us at Ojo.  Great dinner that night, and the next day we took Otto to Taos.

Relive 'Taos'

Bill and Pam left the next day to explore Santa Fe before heading back East.  It was, as always, great to see them and very special that they could make Krisanne's birthday celebration.  Thank you!

Ojo has many hot spring fed pools, saunas and steam rooms...we tried them all.  Ahhhhhhh...

And, fabulous hiking right out your front door.

There are multiple yoga classes every day...Krisanne loved each one, and all had different teachers.

Spring has sprung, even here in the high desert.

But it is still chilly at night, in the 30s, so this 30 year old bunny-slipper-approved Port somehow evaporated in front of the fire.

To La Posada

After three days at Ojo, and the Wednesday morning yoga class, we loaded up Otto and headed to Winslow, AZ (yes, that Winslow, AZ) for a stay at La Posada and dinner at the Turquoise Room.

The Ojo Caliente Yoga Yurt

Adjacent to the river.

And the meditation zone.

La Posada, "the resting place," was one of the original Fred Harvey railroad hotels, and first opened in 1930.  It remained open for only 27 years,  In the 1960s, the building was gutted and turned into offices for the Santa Fe Railway.  It was purchased in 1994 by Allen Affeldt, who, along with his wife, oversaw the hotel's renovation.

La Posada History

Sadly, no Relive video...technical difficulties, i.e., user error...

Beautiful drive right up until I-40.

Still pretty high.

Otto in the background.  ðŸ˜Ž

At La Posada.

Drinks at the bar before dinner...a very nice white from France for Krisanne and for me, a "Siena," the gin and tonic we learned in Siena, Italy...Hendricks, Schweppes, cucumber, fresh ground pepper on the top.  Yum.

Dinner at the Turquoise Room, fabulous as always.

We love this place, it never disappoints.

Back To Tucson

Time to head home...

Otto's ready.

The road awaits...

Once again, the back way home, avoiding the highway.

Relive 'Back Home!'

We have Elk...

Beautiful drive past Roosevelt Lake.

Quick coffee stop in Globe at the Vida Caffee...

Then home with this trip and this Birthday firmly in the rear view mirror.

I think she had a good time and hopefully won't have to call...in fact, rumor is there are already fall reservations at Ojo Calliente.  ðŸ˜‚

xxxxxxxx
