One Year In

 Fantastic, Just Fantastic

Just over a year and 6500 miles of ownership and Otto's been a joy.  Fun, fast, comfortable, quiet.  Everything I wanted.

As I type, we're on a roadtrip through Prescott, AZ.  Up the west side; tomorrow, we'll head home down the east side...missing Phoenix completely and staying on the beautiful backroads.

At the Hotshot Memorial.

The memorial pays tribute to the 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots crew killed in the 2013 Yarnell Hill Fire.

The route north:

Our route home will look like this:

I absolutely love being able to plan our auto routes just like I do our moto routes...lay out exactly what you want on the TomTom planner, use the TomTom Go app and Apple CarPlay...boom, exactly what I want on Otto's screen.  Works perfectly.  The on-board Porsche nav system is pretty, but "point-to-point" like everything else, i.e., mostly useless for me.  And "Hey, Porsche, take me to blah blah" is nowhere near as quick or accurate as "Hey, Siri, take me to blah blah."

At The Motor Lodge, one of our favorites in Prescott.

The most surprising thing after a year of ownership:  the gas mileage.

I'm truly shocked at the mileage, never expected it to be this good.  Considering the performance and size, I think 24 mpg overall is pretty amazing.  It's not like I'm trying.  ðŸ˜Ž

The other real standout:  the air suspension.  It smooths Tucson's roads so that they actually feel paved, and when you turn the dial to Sport or especially Sport Plus, the corner carving is scalpel-sharp.  The very best option we chose.

The Ceramic Pro coating and PPF have also been a pleasure, making "rinseless washing" quick and easy.  The windshield protection film has saved the glass on several occasions.

Otto's annual PPF inspection and wash...Brett and his crew at Recon Auto Detailing do a great job.

Otto recently got to play with his other Porsche buddies at the top of Kitt Peak.

What are the niggles?  Well, the moonroof sunshade is a bit of a "miss"; sometimes you wonder if anyone actually uses the product before it is released.  There are two buttons, one to open, one to close.  But the shade only opens fully or closes fully about 60% of the time, necessitating another stab at the button.  Supposedly, these buttons have "detents" according to Porsche Tucson, but damned if I can feel them even when I try.

More frustrating is that the shade will stop if you shut off the car in the middle of the cycle.  You must wait for the shade to fully close (or open) before shutting the car down.

There are so many "programming" options on Otto that it is hard to believe that "close the sunshade upon exit" isn't one of them.  Also hard to believe that when the lights/music/displays stay on after shut down that the shade can't finish its cycle.  Dumb.  Or just automatically close the sunshade when the doors are locked.

And the buttons...why not press "open" to open, press "close" to stop the opening at any point.  Then press "close" to close or "open" to continue opening?  Simple, intuitive, idiot proof.  No fake detent required.

Rant off.  ðŸ˜‚. And that's it.  Oh, and Android Auto didn't work as well as Apple CarPlay, but I suspect that's down to Google and Apple, not Porsche.

But, man, when the roads look like this, Otto rocks!

Turn that dial and have some fun!

Otto loves his coco mats upgrade.  Classic and timeless.

Every vehicle (of mine 😎) has to have a little carbon fiber...

...but Otto's the only one that came with a bespoke carbon fiber pen...

Cleaning supplies, there must always be cleaning supplies...special towels, sponges, chemicals... 😂

That "Mit on a Stick" is awesome for the roof, no ladder or step stool needed!

Couple of new restaurants in Prescott, both very good.

Bear and Dragon

Farm Provisions

Prescott also has cats
